Upendra’s UI saw a slight boost in collections yesterday, thanks to Christmas, but the increase was minimal. While the film didn’t show a big jump, it managed to maintain steady earnings. After a strong start at the Indian box office, it struggled to gain momentum over the weekend. Now, during weekdays, the collections are steady but remain below expectations. Day 6 Box Office Report:
The Kannada sci-fi dystopian action film received mostly positive reviews from critics and has decent word-of-mouth among audiences. However, its overall appeal hasn’t attracted a wide range of viewers, which might explain the lukewarm performance at ticket counters.
The film earned ₹18.60 crores during its opening weekend but dropped to ₹2.17 crores on Monday. It stayed stable on Tuesday with ₹2.15 crores. On Day 6 (Christmas), collections saw a small boost to ₹2.48 crores. This brings the total domestic net collection to ₹25.40 crores.
While UI has received praise, its overall performance so far indicates tough days ahead.
Apart from the lukewarm response at the box office, UI faced another setback yesterday with a reduction in show count due to the release of Kiccha Sudeep’s Max, which further impacted its overall earnings.
Collection Breakdown:
- Day 1: ₹7 crores
- Day 2: ₹5.60 crores
- Day 3: ₹6 crores
- Day 4: ₹2.17 crores
- Day 5: ₹2.15 crores
- Day 6: ₹2.48 crores
- Total: ₹25.40 crores
The film, reportedly made on a budget of over ₹60 crores, is struggling to recover its costs. Based on its current performance, it is unlikely to break even through domestic earnings, making the situation tough for this Sandalwood biggie.
On a brighter note, UI has become the highest-grossing Kannada film of 2024, surpassing Martin’s ₹22 crores. However, it still has a long way to go to be considered a financial success.
